The Big Island is now host to more than 20 certified organic farms andproduction facilities. All of Hawaii's agricultural products can be grown according to organic standards and the Big Island now produces organically grown coffee, avocado, ginger, banana, taro, pineapple, citrus, and a large variety of salad greens and vegetables.

Hawaii Organic Farmers Association (HOFA) has taken the lead as a local, farmer-based organic certifying agency. The statewide organization has grown to nearly 300 members since its inception in 1993 and has two chapters on the Big Island.

Approximately one-third of the State's certified organic farms are located on the Big Island and can be found in every district of the island.
